Washing Machine Recommendations

This morning my washing machine appears to have died so I need to very quickly find a replacement. Any recommendations or ones to avoid? This one has lasted years and was just a cheap one, not sure whether to go for another cheapy or go for something better this time Confused

do you have or know anyone who has access to Which? online? they have lots of reviews - or you can google washing machine reviews and see what people think.
My current one is a Bosch. It was quite expensive - but it cleans really well and am very happy with it. Went for a supposedly better quality one as we use it so much. Don't know how it would compare to a cheaper one tho'. Perhaps someone else will be along in a mo. to give you a comparison.

I have a John Lewis one. They are really good and are made by AEG so you have the quality and the good JL guarantee without the price tag. Mine is the most basic one but it is great. I've only had it a couple of years, when I was looking to see what to buy the consensus seemed to be that if you can't afford a Miele then a John Lewis is the best on to buy for quality for your cash.

Please go for something better. My friend buys cheap every time and seems to be buying a lot of washing machines.

Our Siemens is ten years old and still going strong. We have had a couple of repairs along the way and the service man says it's 'worth repairing' because it's a good machine. I think Bosch is good too.

Avoid Hotpoint, that's what my delivery man said. Bought zanussi 18 months ago online and found it to be £60 cheaper than comet/currys etc. Compare prices online and they usually deliver for free.

Sparklingbrook · 20/01/2012 11:15

Oh yes, Zanussi as well. They are good.

My last machine was a Candy, it cost £180 and with two LO's it was used daily. It never went wrong once in its 8 years until it died today! I count myself very lucky as it was just meant to be a stop gap machine!
Am thinking of going for either a Bosch or Indesit. All my other appliances are Bosch and I had always intended to replace the washing machine with a Bosch when the time came. My Candy had a brilliant quick wash which i used loads, that's the only feature the new machine must have!

avoid bosch (after two broken ones in 13 years) apparently they are made in Spain now not Germany Wink
I have Miele/John Lewis, and I have to say it was 10 year guarantee that swung it for me. I bought one called a Paragon Plus with extra capacity.

Have a cheapie Hotpoint Dw and it is brilliant though!

Agree about quick wash, and not too many programmes. Also timed delay is a most useful feature if you can't put too many appliances on at once for fear of flood or shortcircuit!

I've got a Bosch, I bought it after researching it on Which. It is much quieter than our previous one (Beko), and gets more of the detergent out so great if you have sensitive skin. Gentler on the clothes, too. Would highly recommend it!

Indith · 20/01/2012 12:55

Mine has a lovely button, you press it once to turn any cycle into a quick version or twice to add a prewash to any cycle. I love my magic button.

crockydoodle · 20/01/2012 13:23

Siemens and Bosch are made by the same company

PigletJohn · 20/01/2012 15:38

I can pick a few best buys off "Which" for you but I need a budget.

I think a popular price is is the region of £400

John Lewis is a good retailer to buy from as theior service is very good and they do a 2-year guarantee as standard (sometimes they do a 5-year special offer on Siemens - Siemens and Bosch co-own the company that designs and manufactures their domestic appliances, and they have a good reputation.)

RatDesPaquerettes · 20/01/2012 15:41

I have had a fairly simple Bosch for 7 years or so and I am really really please with it. I would buy Bosch again.

careergirl · 21/01/2012 00:00

I've just got a Zanussi from John Lewis £200

lisaro · 21/01/2012 00:05

Had an LG for 6/7 years - love it!! I'm getting another next week and my son's having this one (the only reason I'm getting a new one TBH). I can't recommend them highly enough. Don't touch hoover/Candy with a bargepole.

My machine gave up the ghost on New Year's eve. I went for this model in the end and so far I am very happy with it.

I ordered it on friday night and it was delivered on sunday morning.
