Gas hob won't stop clicking - help!

Can anyone tell me how to stop my gas hob from clicking constantly? It's the automatic ignition that keeps on clicking - tick, tick, tick tick. If I unplug the electric cable it stops it, but then I have to use a match to light the gas.

Is this a job for an expert and if so, where do I get one?

Mine does this periodically...i turn it off at the wall for a few hours and it goes back to normal, but you need to leave it off for a while.

you say automatic ignition, so presumably there is no button to press.

In that case it might be the sensor that detects that there is gas flowing but unlit.

If you have recently cleaned the hob, there might be water in it causing an electrical problem (and if it is filthy there might be congealed gravy or something).

Water will dry out in a few hours. Turning on an oven beneath will warm it and dry it quicker. If no improvement tomorrow I think you will need to get an RGI mender.

Filthy? How very dare you! :o

Thanks very much for the advice, both of you. It's been switched off for a few weeks so I shall switch it back on tonight and see what happens. It is clean, but I will have a close look in case something is not quite right.

I do fear it may be a call out job though. It is a very beautiful Italian hob but not all it could be in terms of function.

has the house been empty? It might be cold and damp. You could try lighting all the rings for long enough to warm it up.

I've had a good result! Switched it on again and no clicking!

Thanks very much for the advice, much appreciated.

I have a NEFF hob which is constantly clicking even though I have unplugged it? Has anyone else had this problem and if so how long does it take to stop clicking. My mum in law dropped a lot of water on it and my husband is now trying to dry inside with a hairdryer. Any help would be great as it's driving us crazy!!!!!!

My gas oven clicks and has done ever since we moved here over 3 years ago. I'm just used to it now. Unhelpful, sorry.

My Neff built in hob clicks too. Sometimes as others have said switching it off at the plug overnight works. We have given up now as I don't want it clicking if I'm not around - so we keep the plug switched off and use a gas lighter wand instead. A few years ago we were told by a Neff installer that the units on each ring needed replacing it cost about £500! and didn't solve it. We have a 6 ring hob and a large family so a lot of pasta pots etc do boil over especially with the teens cooking.

Wormulonian · 15/07/2017 12:36

Sorry - we replaced the electrical ignition units on 4 of the rings.

I had this with a client's cooker once. I was cleaning it and it decided to do this, but I was in the middle of taking the burners off to clean and kept getting shocks off it. Took a while to find out where they had hidden the cooker switch. It was in the cupboard!

When ours did that it was dust in the little things. Guy came round and took them all off and hoovered them out
