Can I steam clean Marmoleum lino type flooring?

I've had mine for 6 years and it is looking very dull and grubby probably because I am a slattern that doesn't scrub it enough so I was wondering if one of those steam cleaners from Lakeland that everyone raves about would be a good idea? Or would it just strip all the natural oils out of it and make it worse?

The only advice on their website is to use their difficult to get hold of and expensive ownbrand cleaners.

Tips/alternatives anyone?

You can really bring it up well with biological washing powder and a scrubbing brush as a one off (beacuse of the effort not because it would damage it). I can't see why you shouldn't use a steam mop if you have one, but I don't rate them if you are thinking about buying one!

I find the best thing to wash the kitchen floor with is washing power as it is very good at degreasing.

I had lino in my last house and it was so grubby with 4 dogs , washed daily but ingrained muck, and I spent an afternoon on my hands and knees scrubbing it and it was like new!

Thanks oreocrumbs, only 3 dogs here! Smile

I really had hoped to avoid the hands & knees scrubbing business that's why I was hoping someone would tell me I'd get the same results with a steam cleaner - damn!

You won't I'm affraid! I have a steam cleaner and a steam mop and while the cleaner is very good at lots of things it doesn't do the floor well! The mop is a waste of money. There was a thread on stem mops not long ago and someone said that you are meant to clean your floor before you use a steam mop Shock. Cold day in hell springs to mind before I will mop my floor twice off the trot Grin
