Delonghi ICM40 coffee machine question

MrsMangoBiscuit · 17/01/2012 18:28

Anyone who has the ICM40 model, does it really switch itself off after 2 hours? And is there anyway to stop it?

DH has just bought one of them to replace our old one that died this morning. However, reading the instructions it says that it will turn itself off after it's been on 2 hours. If there's no way around it I think we'll have to take it back :(

Anyone?

Why would you take it back because it turns itself off?

thrifty · 17/01/2012 19:05

Surely that's a good thing. I wish ours would turn itsel.f off if we didn't use it for 2 hours, would save electricity

The jug sits on a hotplate to keep the coffee hot, if it turns itself off before we're finished, the coffee will go cold. I'll eat/drink many things, but cold coffee is not one of them! Grin

Oh I see. I thought it was a bean to cup machine. Sorry. Yes that could be inconvenient, however, eeeww at 2 hour old stewed coffee. I guess its to stop the coffee burning in the bottom of the jug.
Just make less and drink it faster. Then put on more if you need another cup.

Can you not reheat in the microwave?

Harecare · 17/01/2012 19:35

There's a good reason it turns itself off. Why would you make a jug of coffee and leave it longer than 2 hours??? Are you planning on making a jug in the morning and making it last all day with the hot plate keeping it hot all day? That's a very uneconomical way of making your coffee.
I bought De'Longhi BCO410 for DP at christmas off amazon and it's just been reduced to £99.99. I'd definitely recommend it. You can make single cups of coffee quickly and easily or a jug if you've got guests.

thrifty, you "ewww" at 2hr old coffee, but you'd drink microwaved? ShockGrin

Not all day Harecare, just the morning! I usually get up about 2 hours before DH, so he'll be left with cooling coffee. I've just run it through with just water and it takes a fair while to brew. I really didn't want the faff of having to put it on twice just so I can have a last cup around 10. Just seems odd to me that you can tell it when to turn itself on, but you have no say when it turns off! Bloody arrogant coffee machine! Grin

If that's your use for it then I would seriously recommend a different machine. Have you considered ones that do single cups e.g. www.amazon.co.uk/Delonghi-EC152-Espresso-Coffee-Machine/dp/B003U2SLI8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1326835306&sr=8-1
