Has anyone bought a superking mattress topper from Ikea recently?

We are looking for a new bed, I like the look of the Malm, in superking size, with 2 single mattresses. However I can't find a superking size topper on their website. Has anyone bought one from there recently, or shall I just go with a memory foam topper from Dunelm Mill, which look quite good?

Will it fit? Aren't Ikea mattress sizes different to the standard sizes? DD has a Malm bed and a standard mattress, the mattress is shorter than the bed base so she needs a block of wood to fill the gap.

yeah you would need a continental size topper wherever you buy it from

ChablisLover · 16/01/2012 20:25

I would measure it first.

We have king malm bed and a king mattress from another shop (cost £500 so wasn't going to change it) and there is a 4 inch gap approx width wise.

Ds has male single bed and sultan mattress from ikea and normal sheets don't fit it. Has to be ikea ones

So the sizing is definitely a wee bit out there.

maybe you have to have 2 single toppers? one for each bed?

OpheliaBumps · 16/01/2012 20:29

The mattresses are 90 x 200, and the topper is 180 X 200 so it should fit ok, but it just seems odd that Ikea don't appear to sell a topper themselves in the right size!

Also, as it's a topper, if it's a bit short that's not the end of the world, just means our feet won't be on the topper. The main reason for buying it is to cover the join between the mattresses, so it's not uncomfortable.

Sorry thisis, missed your post. 2 toppers would still leave a 'join' down the middle - which is often where I get shuffled off to when both kids climb into bed with us Grin

i am worried you will still have a gap though, and you AND the topper will go down it? Grin

maybe you'd be better with a regular mattress?

HoneyandHaycorns · 16/01/2012 21:32

We have a malm king size bed, and use an ikea mattress topper, so they used to do them, but that was about eight years ago!

Think carefully about the malm bed. I regret it a bit as it's so low - I could really use the space for storage but you can't really get anything underneath. :(

OpheliaBumps · 16/01/2012 21:53

Ooooh nooo falling down the gap would be worse than being in range of dd's restless limbs!

I can't find a superking mattress on ikea's website, only 2 singles, perhaps that's why their superkings are cheaper than everyone else's.

Thanks honey i hadn't realised the malm was that low, we need the storage space for shoes etc so it seems like we need a rethink.

worth going into a store and checking them all out. that way you could ask about mattresses too?

RandomMess · 16/01/2012 21:56

Hmmm we've got 2 single beds from ikea and a kingsize/superking size topper from them - thing our bed comes to 190 wide? It's just the sultan bases on high legs and we've got a headboard attached to the wall.

RandomMess · 16/01/2012 21:58

Actually I think we have 2 x 90cm mattresses with a 180 wide topper Grin

Anyway it's huge after our 4'6" bed!

HoneyandHaycorns · 16/01/2012 22:04

You could probably get some shoes under there, but I can't fit any shoeboxes. :(

shouldabeenwashedinajug · 16/01/2012 22:07

Dunno about Ikea doing one but I just bought this one half price and it's very comfy.

Aonach · 16/01/2012 22:17

We bought a super king bed frame from Ikea last years. Sorry can't remember the model name but it's the wooden frame covered in beige fabric. The two mattresses come with a bag you put them both in and zip closed. We bought a mattress topper as well which fits- so yer they do toppers to fit that size. The staff in store were really helpful in advising us. I think they only do a couple of mattresses in the super king size.

We love our super king size, be warned though the frame we got, the mattress and topper makes the bed quite high, but you get used to it.

Hope that helps.

ChablisLover · 17/01/2012 06:03

Definitely can't fit much under a malm bed. Shoe boxes won't go. I
too miss the extra storage space my old higher bed gave.

Aonach · 17/01/2012 16:18

Loads of storage under the model we have. Closest looking model on website is Vanvik but our has foot board as well. Advantage is storage is concealed by fabric.

OpheliaBumps · 17/01/2012 20:10

Thanks everyone, well I've definitely discounted the Malm, by the time we've got a superking in the bedroom, under the bed will be the only space we have left to store things, so it's got to be high enough for useable storage.

Aonach I quite like the Vanvik, not bothered about a foot board, so I think we might have to go & have a look at that.

I was hoping I could avoid Ikea with my 2 year old twins, but it seems I was a bit too optimistic, ah well if we go very early or quite late it shouldn't be too bad!
