How can i get the smell of smoke out of a leather sofa?

We have recently inherited a second-hand leather sofa and it smells musty and of smoke.

has anyone got any ideas for how best to clean and refresh it?

i am reluctant to use febreze or the like as i think that may just mask the smell rather than get rid of it...

Thanks Smile

I have no idea if this would work, but as it's bloody freezing at the moment and totally dry, could you stick it outside and freeze it? Seems to get the smell out of everything else.

do you know, i did think about that, but we nearly killed ourselves squeezing it through the front door and the only way it's coming back out is in pieces!!

so far i have a bowl of vinegar next to it and i have sprinkled baking soda on it. fingers crossed it will smell better soon Wink

Saddle soap, you get it in horsey shops and some hardware stores. It is a bar of soap and you use a flannel/rough weave cloth. It nourishes the leather and the muck it brings off is unreal. You use it to clean saddles (hence the name) but it is wonderful on any leather. It has a pleasant smell too, which will fade away and you just have the leather smell afterwards. You should clesn it every year with this and in between I always used to rub mine ovr with baby wipe and it was fine Smile

Johnsons baby wipes work wonders on leather - they might help.
