Come and talk to me about dust!

I want to know how often you vacuum and dust and do you always dust when you vacuum? DH insists that if you vacuum, you dust - but if it's just a quick run round with the vacuum at the end of the day I don't bother. Is that manky?

No! I vacuum every night (toddler and dog) and I dust twice a week Smile

I'm probably a slattern!

Flyingoutofcontrol · 13/01/2012 18:06

Ditto what laure said, although my hoovering is the morning just after DS has had his biscuit Grin

I should add....I dust about once a week when I'm being efficient. DH has a dust mite allergy so I'm having to up my dust removal efforts. Hoovering once a day I can manage, but dusting takes ages!

I hoover every day................but dusting I aim for once a week but truthfully probably happens more like once a fortnightBlushGrin

I Hoover most days and wet dust at least once a week.

Dd is allergic to dust mites too but it doesn't need doing every day.

Op: when your dh insists that "when you vacuum, you dust" is that something he learned from his childhood?

Cos let me reassure you, sometimes perfectly nice, normal, healthy and interesting people do not dust every time they vacuum, even if they only vacuum once a week or fortnight Wink. Infact, they might not dust for months weeks at a time, yet still manage to live fulfilling/prosperous/happy lives with well-adjusted intelligent dc who have lots of friends.

bibbitybobbityhat · 13/01/2012 20:14

Ah - x-posted, I see your dh has dust mite allergy. Well that makes it rather different but does he expect YOU to dust every day, or does he do it?

startail · 13/01/2012 20:52

Blush most of this house is to covered in junk to dust more than 3 times a year. DH bought a stupid heavy Dyson. He is required to use it, if we are having visitors or if something create a mess.

I don't want this to get into a who does what debate, I do it most of the time cos I'm a sahm and it's one of the tasks we agreed I'd 'do', but he does it sometimes too. I don't know why he thinks dusting has to be done every time, it could be as simple as 'it's what his mum did'.

I'm just really interested from an allergy point of view, whether it's something that should be done every time. I think not! I think I will carry on dusting when I can write my name in it once a week, regardless of how often I hoover. Thanks all.
