Grimey washing machines and clogged pipes, how to clean?

The softener section in my washing machine drawer got very clogged up a couple of months ago. I took the drawer out and cleaned it, put it on a cycle with soda crystals and tried dr beckman washing machine cleaner but the softener section is still clogged up and the tray is still full after a wash is finished. so I think the problem is the water spouts about that section are blocked so the water can't get through. Does any of this make sense?

Anyone got any idea what I can use to clean it? Seeing as it's the water spout that are blocked I think it needs something spraying up them to desolve any scum!

have you got a dishwasher? then I would put the drawer in there.

No I don't think it's the drawer though cause I've cleaned that it's where the water comes through that's clogged up.

take the drawer out, spray "kitchen cleaner with bleach" into the slot and agitate it with a small nylon brush. There are holes in the "ceiling" of the slot. Rinse and repeat until it looks clean. you may need to use the nylon bristles to poke the holes clean.

p.s. can you see the syphon tube in the softener section of the drawer? depending on make, you nay have to open its lid to clean out the little tubes. If you can't do that, and haven't got a dishwasher, slosh it about in very hot water for a long time.

Well I tried pipe cleaners and they brought a load of black crap out but just tried it again and it is still blocked so I'll try praying with bleach. It's driving me insane!

I use a toothbrush to scrub at the water spouts in the roof bit of the drawer section. I also spray kitchen cleaner with bleach and use a cloth to wipe over what the toothbrush has cleared out.

The pipe cleaners did work afterall!
