Washing machine making clothes smell of bleach??

My washing machine is about 6/7 years old. For the past 2 years I have had problems with the washed clothes smelling musty. I have tried hot washes and soda crystals. These usually help, but recently the clothes have started coming out smelling as if they have been washed with bleach....which they haven't.

I cleaned the filter, washed at 60 with soda crystals and have done an empty wash at 95. They still smell. What can I do? Doing the washing is the only household chore I enjoy, but I'm not enjoying it at the moment.

h'mmmm, no reason I can see why the mains supply might have extra chlorine in it. You haven't heard any stories about work on mains or reservoirs, or flooding, or contamination?

some washing powders used in US use chlorine bleach, but I don't think it's used over here. You could try a liquid, they don't contain any bleaches, or change your brand of powder.

If you have cleaned out the sludge using hot washes, I can't think what else. Check that the soap drawer and its slot are clean. Do you have teenage boys in the house?

I have one teenage boy ....why?!
I am a bit fickle with powders/liquids and buy whatever is on offer.
