Any ideas beyond the high street?

We bought these online and are really happy with them.

I was a bit nervous about buying without sitting on them first, but they are really comfortable and very solid.

Found the company were very good to deal with too.

We're about to get some from these people. We haven't placed the order yet as they say they are not yet sure when they'll be bale to get some, but customer service has been good so far. Think they are a stockist rather than making the furniture themselves.

Made.com is also worth a look for modern styles

I've seen some online in the John Lewis and Debenhams sale, but am nervous of buying without looking. Some of them don't have real woodworking joints, just screws and clamps, and may loosen and wobble in time.

This is a trade company, but you can get a good range of dining chairs from there. We have some bar stools in the house, they are very sturdy and I also have there chairs in my bar and can say they dtand up to all kinds of abuse!

I have some odd chairs as I think 6 all the same look dull. I have 3 from the set which came with the table 9 years ago (love the table but now hate the chairs, and one broke), 2 I picked up on Ebay for about a tenner each, and the other one was from my grandma's house when she died. I am in the process of replacing the chairs I don't like by buying odd ones when I see them.

If you do want a matching set try second hand shops and Ebay, though make sure you search within a reasonable distance of your postcode else you'll be paying a fortune for couriers or collecting from 3000 miles away.

Interesting idea about mismatching. I like that eclectic look.
My ideal would be the Eames dsw chairs with wooden legs in different colours but dh isn't keen and wants something a bit more formal.

I will check out your assorted links...and return once I've looked at them. Thanks so far.
