My house is a mess and i cant seem to get on top of it. I don't know where to start. I struggle to keep on top of things then one day I fall behind then I just cant claw my way back.

I'd ask a friend or relative who can actually see the place, then consider getting an agency cleaner for a day.

I looked into getting a cleaner but was told the floors, worktops and everywhere had to be tidy and they would do the floors, windows and bathroom but charge me £12ph and it would take them 5 hours. I have a small 3 bed house so why that would take so long i have no idea

I've recently been here. A friend offered to come round and help and she was brutal Everything she picked up, she asked "why have you got it" if I didn't have an answer it was binned/recycled/donated. Once she got going and I saw the difference I got stuck in. Now, downstairs is in such a condition that I hoover mop and polish every moring, swap the dishwasher and bleach the sides in the kitchen and it all looks good. I do a load of washing every day to keep on top of it. Next week, we start upstairs! It is my new year's resolution to get it so we can ALWAYS have visitors/overnight gusets and not have to worry whether the loo has been cleaned today

Get a couple of willing friends, a babysitter for the day if you've little ones and have a look at flylady for crisis cleaning. It works really well for me

YY flylady is a good start and system if you ignore some of the more evangelical stuff

Pick one room at a time, set timer, bin / recycle everything that is neither useful / beautiful.

Once you are on top of it, it is easier to do a regular declutter
