Ideas for window coverings / window treatments

Hi,

I currently have venetian blinds on my groundfloor windows but think I need a change - don't like the light effectf from the blinds and they're a nightmare to keep clean.

Does anyone have any ideas for what I could use instead? I need: privacy as we're overlooked, need to diffuse light and easy to maintain.

If another thread exists on this, happy to be linked to it.

I've still got plain vertical blinds which unclip to go in washing-machine as not yet found anything more practical.
