My house smells of cat's pee

I spent all weekend cleaning it, DS is away with GPs so I took the opportunity. I wake up this morning to find our usually very well behaved DC has pee'd in pretty much every room. I have a house swap guest arriving on Friday. What can I do??

mix white vinegar and water and spray on any hard floors then leave for a while before mopping with something with an anti bacterial in it, eg dettol.

for carpets, scrub with soda water then sprinkle with bicarb of soda when dry. Leave overnight then hoover off in the morning.

good luck!

you can get urine remover spray from the pet shop or from places that hire out rug doctor machines (you need something with enzymes in it to break down the odour molecules). You could also try making a solution with bio washing powder as it has enzymes in it too

Our vet said to use a solution of biological washing powder first, then follow up with surgical spirit. Apparently the wee contains both proteins and fat, but I can't remember which broke down which bit. Anyway, I did it and it stopped the smell and also deterred the cat from doing it again. We've got wooden floors, though, and I don't know what surgical spirit might do to carpet.

I'd second the biological washing powder solution. Don't overwet it though and blot it with an old towel to dry it as much as you can.
Also I'd take your cat to to the vet for a check up if weeing indoors is unusual it could indicate something's not right.

Yes, ours had a terrible bladder stone and was v poorly - felt very guilty for thinking she was a delinquent and being cross with her, poor thing.
