Miele dustbags - do I need genuine ones?

LakeFlyPie · 19/12/2011 21:12

Having had a Dyson for years am now faced with the decision of whether to pay double for genuine Miele bags or get twice for the price of "Miele type" bags.

Will I regret not going for the genuine article?

It's an S500 ish model if that matters

TIA

I buy cheapo ones from the market.

I do buy the fabric type ones as the paper ones weren't so good but hoovering rarely happens in this house anyway.

hmmm... had a miele cat 'n' dog tt ... hated the cheapo bags. Authentic all the way for me. Sorry.

smartyparts · 24/12/2011 21:37

I have a Miele but have never bought 'fake' bags.

The bags I get are pretty cheap though, (about £10 a box, iirc) and they come with 2 new filtery things, which are essential (prone to pongy dog whiff otherwise).

valiumredhead · 28/12/2011 13:33

I order the real ones on line.

JimmyChoo17 · 02/05/2012 18:38

How long do these last for? We have a cat n dog Hoover (and have a pet dog) but wondering If they need replacing a lot as I imagine they fill with hair quickly?

noddyholder · 02/05/2012 18:39

Yes

PigletJohn · 02/05/2012 23:36

Genuine ones are often available at discount online or on fleabay. If you get copies, have a look and make sure they have the rubbery plastic seal at the hole where the dusty air goes in. Bags without it do not seal so well and you will find the filter gets dirty. This happens with all bags if they do not have the seal, not just ones for Mieles.

BTW you can wash and reuse the little filters, I like to put a clean one in with every bag change. You only get one or two with each pack of bags.

Anypointinseeingdoc · 03/05/2012 15:47

Can anybody recommend an ebay seller for the knockoff ones please?

Just changed my (genuine) bag today and I notice that the bag full indicator is indicating that the bag is, err, full. It isn't full. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

PigletJohn · 03/05/2012 18:07

are the filters clogged? I think it is indicating that there is not enough airflow.

if that's not it, check the instruction book. There will be at least two filters.

Anypointinseeingdoc · 03/05/2012 18:09

I think the filters are ok but will check them just in case. Thanks.

JimmyChoo17 · 05/05/2012 17:58

Are u getting the full indication when using one of the powers heads? They give a false reading u see.

everythingtodo · 05/05/2012 18:17

Mine has shown bag full permanently for the last 2 years! Filters both changed and still no difference. Don't think it has ever recovered from the time I tried to suck up a demolished fireplace Grin - still sucks up fine mind you!
