...moved house 2 weeks ago.

House has a conservatory which we plan(ned) to use as a dining room.

The roof leaks.

Cant get ANYONE to sort it til after xmas (and people are so desperate for work, right???)

We are eating our meals on our laps atm (not ideal) and I have 25 people coming over on boxing day for a hosue warming/xmas bash.

I have spent all morning so far on the net and on the phone trying to get someone to come out. Do I just except it wont be fixed and move the table into the lounge? It needs re-painting so could do that I guess.

Lots of snow and rain due over the next few days too. Lovely.

(we have no legal recourse either - checked with solicitor already)

I would think you will struggle to get the trades in now so you need to look at your other options.

How badly does the roof leak? Are you or your DH/P any ggod at DIY? Would you feel happy to get up there and have a look yourself and attemp a patch up job?

Any thing you can do from the inside as a temp job? I'm thinking along the lines of gaffa tape, shower curtain and draping some net curtains to disguise your handy work!

If you can make the conservatory water tight you could lay the table for a buffet in there but have your guests in the lounge.

The previous owner have put a sort of cladded ceiling on the inside so cant get at it that way.

Guy has been up twice to re seal it and it hasnt worked Sad

I think you're going to struggle to find anyone. I was broken into this time last year and it seems that most if the double glazing manufacturers shut their factories for much of December. I had to live in a freezing boarded up house for all of December and January.

I recommend you try and get quotes for the work now so that you're near the front of the queue when they start working again.

For Christmas I can only suggest that you try and get another family member to host this year, unless they fancy very watery gravy...

Bucket to catch the drips and use it anyway?
