My tree has just fell over, depositing 1/2 a litre of muddy water all over my brand new cream carpet.

I've managed to get most of it off with a carpet cleaner but now there is a grey/dark stain where the mud was.

Any ideas? Wool carpet. Try again tomorrow?

well, my wool carpet says it can be cleaned with a very weak bleach solution.
wouldn't be my default choice, but might be worth a try if you can't get it out any other way

Thanks, will try that.

Rug Doctors are very effective at getting stains out but it needs doing soon before the stain has really set.

I had this happen a few years ago and nothing got the stain out, even professional cleaning. We claimed on the insurance for a new carpet in the end. sorry.

Bugger, will keep those two in mind.

Managed to get blue dye out from a stick of rock after a lot of scrubbing so I'm not going to give up.

(it's only been down 2 months and I did it myself, I'm gutted)

1001 is my carpet savior after we fitted an almost white carpet in our bedroom. Every item of make I owned burst or spilt on that carpet!!

Rugs in high traffic areas is the only way forward no matter how careful you are. Prevention. (sorry no use now I know but for others reading).

Take dressing tables. The amount of times I have dropped my mascara wand on the carpet by accident... or crumbs of eyeliner have fallen on the floor and been tramped in the carpet... and NOTHING will get Benefit Benetint out, seriously. not even 1001.
