I want a cleaner

I live south Manchester/Cheshire and am finally looking for a cleaner. Should I go with an agency or put a card in the local newsagents?
I was supposed to ring Poppies today but lost my nerve Blush.
Has anyone heard of them or used them?
Advice much appreciated.......

TIA

get a reckomendation locally if you can. do you go to any social groups where you could get a review?

Agencies are usually extremely over priced, I'd use someone from a personal recommendation or advertise in a shop window. Do the first interview at their house at reasonably short notice, say on the phone, can I just pop round now and have a chat. Then have her come to your house and if she's experienced she'll tell you how she does things or you tell her how you'd like things done.

I called several cleaning/ironing services yesterday (ironing mountain was collected this morning) and found a huge difference between agency prices and independent's who were still insured.

One company wanted £52.50 to iron 50 items. I got it for £30 inc vat.

I enquired about cleaning as looking for someone when I go back to work and company wanted £170 for one off 5hr clean of 4bed house then £20p/h for a min of 3hrs per week!

Thank you for your replies.
Where are you OhTheConfusion? I was planning on paying £10 per hour!

I'll put an ad in the newsagents then.

Or ask the cleaner at work if she knows anyone.

I work full time and have no dependent children. I just hate housework Smile
