oven pride - can I use on my Rangemaster Toledo stainless steel self cleaning oven?

Hello _ my rangemaster (modern range style cooker) is filthy - really filthy. I was tempted to call one of those companies who come and clean ovens but my friend just had hers done and it cost £50. I really cant afford that. I bought Oven PRide but now not sure if I can use it. I dont have the instructions for the cooker but I read that not for self cleaning. Help please - my oven is embarrassing . K

I don't think you can use it on the self cleaning panels - but on my oven they are only at the sides of it.

if you know the maker and model of your oven, you can usually get the instruction manual off the maker's website.

Is it a catalytic oven or a pyrolitic one?

I don't even know what that means! Grin

Self-cleaning ovens come in two sorts:

A catalytic oven lining has a rough, slightly absorbent coating, often speckled. It feels a bit like a rough, unglazed earthenware or brick. It works by burning away grease splashes when the oven is running. If you do lots of splashy roasts and fatty meat, it can get overwhelmed with grease, but if you mosty cook cakes and covered casseroles, it burns away the grime faster than it goes on.

A pyrolitic oven has a very very hot "cleaning" cycle. When you turn this on, it locks the oven (to prevent you burning yourself) and heats up so hot that any dirt burns away leaving nothing but ash which you wipe away. This type is usually at the higher end of the price range.

Have you got the make and model?

I have the hot cleaning sort - the second one - was pretty disappointed as I though self cleaning meant it would really clean the whole oven LOL Grin

here you are

I can't see a link for instruction books, but if you try "contact us" they can probably advise.

I know you aren't supposed to use oven-cleaning chemicals on catalytic ovens, I don't know about pyrolitic.

Perhaps I will just use it on all the racks etc.

PigletJohn · 07/12/2011 20:43

racks and grill pan can go in the dishwasher

Mine did but it didn't make any difference - they need to be oven prided first Blush Grin
