I have an avaerage sized 3-bed, and great Hubby, and a beautiful daughter - I'm very lucky.

The only thing is, I'm always running around with 101 things to do, 101 cupboards to sort, 101 things to organise, 101 things to fix, 101 things to clean, 101 things i'd 'like' to do......it's never ending.....

I cannot remember the last time I could sit down, and think - everything is done!!

Does it ever happen? Should I just resign myself to the fact that it will never happen? Would that make it all feel less crazy?!!?

I never manage to "do it all" but I think if I didn't have any children to look after my house would be more tidy.
(My mums house is spotless now all us kids aren't living there!) Xmas Wink

Sometimes but then the cat comes in with super muddy paws and DH comes home and it starts again.

Occasionally.
Its a constant thing though, constant cleaning and tidying.

I am a list kinda girl, do things in chunks.
Its the way i get everything done in between work and school runs really.
Theres always somehting though isnt there...

Listzilla · 05/12/2011 16:00

I used to, once a year on Christmas Eve. I loved it : ) Now it's just a distant memory, I don't think it'll happen again for decades.

Bonsoir · 05/12/2011 16:04

No, but it gets more and more under control as the years pass.

Top tip if you want to get a head start on getting things under control: do a massive declutter and get a cleaning company in for a day to spring clean your house from top to bottom, sending all curtains/loose covers/rugs to the cleaners' first.

Imnotaslimjim · 05/12/2011 16:11

Not yet, but I am getting there. We've decided to have a huge sort out and declutter and slowly my house starting to look like a home and not a junk yard! We're hoping downstairs will be done by Christmas as we have family visiting, and upstairs done (including redecorating) by the end of January

brightermornings · 05/12/2011 16:14

This is something I often wonder. There's always something too do. I agree with once the kids get older it will be easier.

LePruneDeMaTante · 05/12/2011 16:26

Once. Once. I feel it would be achievable if I got rid of 3/4 of our belongings.

40notTrendy · 05/12/2011 16:29

I thought I had done it all until I found mumsnet and realised I am a terrible housewife and there were dozens of jobs I'd never even considered. Grin

WowOoo · 05/12/2011 16:30

Never.
Even if the house looks superficially clean, neat and organised there is always a cupboard where I've shoved things/drawer of crap that I haven't used for years/oven that has been neglected etc etc to do.

What's the name of the bridge that once it's painted they need to go back to start to do again? That's what it feels like..Grin

wordfactory · 05/12/2011 17:04

The Forth Bridge?

That is certainly our house. I could spend the rest of my life renovating/repairing/decorating/sorting it and on the day of my funeral the bioler would blow up.

I've only ever got to the point where the things on my list have been done - there is ALWAYS something else that could actually be done!!

imip · 08/12/2011 13:12

Before kids, frequently.... almost every day - i was really quite anal. Now (3dds and dc4 on the way - all five and under), i cannot believe the filth I tolerate. It's shameful...

soonbeforty · 08/12/2011 13:19

No, and at the moment, there is nothing done. I'm waiting 'til the Christmas break when I will:
Clean the house from top to bottom
Sort out all the photos and put them in albums (last done 2008)
Sort out the memory boxes
Sort out all my paperwork and dispose of anything over two years old.
Oh and celebrate Christmas!

BloooCowWonders · 08/12/2011 13:47

Isn't it that case that you should never feel like it's all done. It should be a continual process (like at work, the in/tray isn't supposed to be empty)

While you're living, there's always domething to be done and that's the way it is!

idobelieveinfairies · 08/12/2011 13:49

Never, use to when the children were smaller, but older children are more messy, have more washing and are generally a lot more hard work! Grin

HugosGoatee · 08/12/2011 13:51

Lower your standards.

Grin
imip · 09/12/2011 14:06

oh hell idobelieve, I hoped it would get better as the kids got older. They are five and under at the moment, and I thought by the time the last one was four-ish, we'd return to normal (well, a new kind of normal, but clean rather than the filth-ridden home that we currently live in). :(
