Does anyone actually have one of those houses where everything has a place and everything's in it's place?

That are always clean and spotless and visitor ready? I thought these were mythical to be honest until I've recently started to visit sil more (as she's had her first baby) and everytime we call it's SPOTLESS - everywhere.

Mil tells me it's always like that. Her home is beautiful but wouldn't be to my personal taste in that it's extremely minimalistic - when I first visited, if I hadn't known better - I'd swear they had just moved in (but were there over 3 years) so I get how it's achievable.

We have a lot of "things" and I like it that way - couple of bookcases filled with books, lots of paintings and pictures hung and placed on various shelves etc - has anyone achieved such a house without being minimalistic and if so, how?

I'm always cleaning and tidying but our house is always in a mess

We are a family of 5

my house is spotless and not minimalist, i just tody stuff up when we finish with it and clean regularly

Mine is very tidy actually. It wasn't always that way, but it is now. Everything has a home to go to.

It looks lived in though, we have lots of books and other things around the place, but tidily.

My house is not minimalist, but, somewhat to my shame, if people are coming over, (even family) I flog myself round tidying and cleaning. Even without guests I cannot really relax if the house is below a certain standard. Is very tiring.

Everything has a place here and most of the times it works. DH and I are both 'tidy as you go types' and I'll have a clear out if i think things ate getting too cluttered. We're definitely not minimalist though. I couldn't relax in a mess and it think it saves me time in never have to 'hunt 'for anything. Fingers (and toes) crossed DD is the same as she gets older Grin.

Yes, but nobody except for me knows where the places are/can be bothered to ut them back Xmas Angry

We tidy as we go, clean once a week and thorough clean about every 3 months. Clutter gets dumped.

Its never show home perfect.

I don't mind houses that are nice and tidy (wish mine was more like that!) but I find ones that don't looked lived in a bit sterile and weird tbh.... I find I can't relax in them and that my mere presence is somehow sullying the place iyswim.

Give me a 'livedi n' house any day!

DeeOfTheNorth · 04/12/2011 21:01

'lived in'

StrictlySazz · 04/12/2011 21:02

My sister's house is, but not in a minimalist way. But tbh i find it pretty joyless Sad. I do wish ours was somewhat tidier but i am swimming against the tide with DH and the DDs

Nooo!! Our house is clean but not always tidy. I mean, I wash doors and walls as well as usual bits so I know it's pretty clean.
