Furniture from Next - is it any good?

Recently bought a sideboard in oak from Argos. It arrived looking nothing like the picture colour-wise (seemed more pine than oak), didn't fit together properly and on top of all that, the drawers were damaged. It was shit.

Just been looking at Next and see they do some lovely oak furniture and it's not that much more expensive than Argos.

So is Next quality any better than argos?

I think so. I have a fair bit of Next furniture and my brother's whole house is furnished with it. It's nice and solid and looks good. Would take it over Argos any day.

We've only got a sofa and a sofabed from Next but have been v v pleased with them. The sofa must be ten years old now and other than looking a bit darker-coloured than it used to is fine. The sofabed still looks pretty new.

I have a living room table. It was worth the money but it did arrive with a small dent on the top. It wasn't worth the hassle to return it (it's very heavy). If you can spare the extra cash then I'd avoid Argos.

I've just contacted argos and they're going to pick the sideboard up thankfully. I'll give Next a go :)

We've had a good few things from them for about 7 or 8 years and it's all still in great condition (though we had a bit of trouble with a bookcase - twice it arrived damaged and we had to get it replaced - but I think that was more to do with the useless delivery company they were using in Ireland at the time).

I think it probably depends which of their stuff you go for though, they seem to have a wide range of prices and finishes. Ours is all solid oak and it's very well made and sturdy.

Have TV stand, sideboard and apothecary table in dark solid wood.

Bought 8 years ago, still perfect.

I have dining chairs from Next. Oak legs and brown leather backs and seats (the type with very tall backs). I bought them in 2003 and they're still going strong.

DS1's bedroom furniture came from Next and went together well. It's 2 years old and still looks new. I'm hoping they hav something similar in their sprig/summer range as we'll buy that for when DS2 goes into his own room. (He's 4 weeks old atm.)

We have a sofa, footstool and armchair which we bought this time last year. Still look like new. Were pleasantly surprised with the designs in there as all the other sofa shops only seemed to have very garishly patterned designs. Customer service was very good as well.

my daughter just moved into their first home and has two tv units delivered from next now which are damaged. They dont even look damaged from delivery it looks more like they were damaged whilst building them. They have said she will not have to wait ten days this really is not good enough and a huge disapointment. They have an eight month old baby who is crawling and the TV cannot be on the floor!!! Lovely furniture but disapointing quality control

I have some dining room furniture from them, lovely quality and is wearing very well. Solidly built.

It's hit and miss as they buy from several different manufacturers. I had a dining bench set for them and the benches caved in through the middle, I was very surprised to see that they were largely made of cardboard type stuff covered in vinyl. I sent them back and got a full refund, didn't take the risk of a replacement.
They sent a furniture inspector to assess them first and it was he who told me that the quality is varied due to different suppliers. Makes sense I suppose!

I think the quality of next has gone right down recently.

It's all flat packs now not the solid bits you used to get!

My friend has just paid £200 for a nest of two white tables from there and frankly it's shit, white melamine and looks like it was £30 from Argos.

If your going to buy from next go to a big store that has furniture so you can look at the quality before you buy

My dining table and chairs are from next and they are really well built.

Both my DD's bedroom sets are also from next and are fantastic

Absolutely not. NEXT furniture is rubbish - doesn't last five minutes. Customer Services are awful as well.

I think next has went down hill in quality lately. I think it would be OK if it's something in solid wood, but a lot of it is rubbish. I've started buying furniture from a lovely family owned business and they are surprisingly well priced and they explain what everything is made from. I don't think I will ever get bedroom furniture anywhere else again.

Further to the reply I posted on this five years ago Grin the furniture we had from Next then is still great. The coffee and side tables we bought a couple of years ago are shit, cardboard with wood coloured paper stuck over it, and has all been fecked into the rubbish tip this last week when I could stand it no more. The £6 side table I bought from Ikea till I decide what to buy is streets ahead in quality.

it's ok.
we have a sofabed and a couple of chairs/stools.
the sofabed is comfy both as bed and as sofa.
