How do I get paint off brass door handles?

very annoyed, our builder/decorator has left us with a mess on one of the handles. Not however worth having an argument about (I choose my battles!) any thoughts welcome!!

take the handles off first

if it is gloss, then you can use paint stripper on the brass and put them back.

if they are polished and lacquered you will have to re-lacquer where you stripped it off.

if it is emulsion (unlikely) then soak in water or use meths to soften, then it will rub off.
