How do I clean interlocking rubber tiles?

I don't know what they're known as here as I live abroad, they're those coloured children's rubber tiles that fit together like a jigsaw. The ones I have are smooth matte on one side and have an embedded crisscross pattern on the other, both sides are impossible to clean. Have tried using scrubbing brushes and scourers, putting ammonia in the water, but alot of elbow grease removes only a light layer of dirt. Any ideas? Think bleach might rot them...Thanks, will be a life saver if I find a quick easy solution!

Could you try them in the dishwasher if you have one?

Yes that's a great idea, I'd never thought of it! Thanks for that nugget of wisdom!

Dettol wipes did mine a treat.

Thnx Fuzzled, will try dettol wipes. Furball, I'll go and look at manual as DH said he didn't think top tray came out but it sounds like it should. It's a cheap Latin American one and the stuff here is really poor quality so we have to be extra careful!
