Getting splash marks off nubuck boots

dd got some boots today with birthday money. I then let her wear them before spraying any protector on them. They now have a few splash marks on them from being out in the rain. Any ideas on how to get the marks out (before then spraying them of course!)?

You can get nubuck brushes from Clarks that do a great job...they are soft enough not to damage the material, but will lift out the watermarks / dirt. Quite reasonably priced too.

Hold over a steaming kettle then use one of the nubuck brushes. Sometimes the kettle alone can do the trick.
