How do you clean Venetian blinds?

I'm getting a new bathroom window soon, and realised that if I'm taking the blinds down anyway, they could do with a clean. We have 4dcs and they are splattered with toothpastey marks and dusty stuff. They don't have metal bits except for the very tops.

Does anyone have advice, please?

Sure I read somewhere about dunking them in the bath with a bit of fairy liquid, a soft brush or cloth should scrub off the worst?
Otherwise they are pretty cheap to buy new!

The best thing I have found it a feather duster (the good old fashioned ones) I find getting them very slightly damp works even better!

Have fun!

Thans Lucy , maybe I should spray them with water then dust?

A chum of mine sticks them in the top drawer of her dish washer, they come out sparkly (she says) & you just hang them up to dry again!

Bossy

I suppose they might fit in diagonally...

I quite like idea of cheating a bit Grin

Apparently there is very little you can't dismantle & shoehorn put into the dishwasher.

I used to put any plastic toys/cups/bricks on the top tray now & again when they got really grimy.

Also little bits like lego can go in an old pillow case tied up in the washing machine on a wool cycle.

Ya clean 'em verrrrry feckin' sloooowwwwwly. I have them all over the place....I use a microfibre cloth, hot water and washing up liquid, turn the curved side in towards me and wipe them across, turn them away from me and ignore the dust on the bits i couldn't get at. I can get away with it 'cos they're wood effect metal and they don't look that dirty....yet!!

I buy gloves from the pound shop, put them on and stick my hands in a bucket of warm soapy water then you can get in between all the slats really easily

I've had the same problem. I found a great source of info here - Order Blinds
I found hoovering them first and then wiping them down with a wet cloth the most efficient way and it's a little bit satisfying seeing all the dirt come off.
You can apparently get a spray that then repells the dirt for some time after using it.
