How many loads of washing do you do?

I need to do at least two loads of washing a day to keep on top of it.. A girl at my nursery does washing on the weekend and only has three loads(same family of 4 -2 adults and 2 under 5's). I wonder if its because I wash towels after i've used them. How many washes do you do a week/day and how do you keep you washing loads down??

Does she have a larger capcity machine? I use towels twice before I wash them, I only use them to dry a clean body after all.

Waiting to be told I'm skanky.

we do a lot of washing too but both me and dh go to the gym several times a week and he also plays football twice a week. We hang up and reuse the bath towels until they get too wet/starts to smell. I try to do at least 1 wash per day but sometimes I can do up to 3 or 4.

bibbitybobbitybloodyaxe · 26/11/2011 17:28

6 or 7 per week for family of 4. We have a 6kg capacity machine. Yes, if you will change a bath towel after every single use then you are going to have tons of washing.

laurenamium · 26/11/2011 17:57

Too many! I aim for 1 a day but lately there always seems to be extra washes EG bedding washes, there's only 3 of us too but DD is MESSY Grin

planetpotty · 26/11/2011 17:59

At least one a day family of four (five when DSD here) more like two a day realy.

VinaApsara · 26/11/2011 17:59

On average 1 wash every other day - for 3 of us. I only wash towels when I think they have seen enough action - common sense/sight/smell test applies!

mousymouse · 26/11/2011 17:59

family of four, about one load a day. bedding and towels alone make 2 loads each week.

BertieBotts · 26/11/2011 18:00

I tend to do about 2 a day but then none for several days. Lots at the moment as DS is potty training.

We're really lax about washing stuff and it only gets washed if it smells or looks dirty.

2 per day for a family of 4 in an 8 kg machine.

It's all the sodding towels.

lisad123 · 26/11/2011 18:01

I do about 4 loads of clothes washing, two towel loads and a bedding load a week. Dh and kids all wear uniform to work/school and they don't change when they get home which saves alot!!

hillyhilly · 26/11/2011 18:01

Family of four (kids 6&3), I probably do around 8-10 per week. Bedding and towels approx fortnightly as towels all go on heated towel rails

PippiLongBottom · 26/11/2011 18:09

I'm a skank and I do 3 a week. One brights, one dark, and one pale. That is it. I am at uni all day every day and work every evening so there isn't time for more.

PippiLongBottom · 26/11/2011 18:10

Oh and there are 5 of us. I iron none of it. Nada.

EssentialFattyAcid · 26/11/2011 18:12

If you do more than 1 load a day, how do you find the time? Is it only SAHMs who do this?

oflip · 26/11/2011 18:13

One load every other day.
3 of us in the house.
Certainly do not wash towels every time they are used. I change them every 3rd day.
TBF i wear a uniform at work, so just wear my every day clothes to and from work, so wear the same thing each day.
Ds has a clean school uniform every day, but i bought loads of polo shirts (cheepo from asda) and trousers so i dont have to worry about turning them round quickly.
Dh has a clean T shirt each day, thats it.
Simples..

oflip · 26/11/2011 18:14

bung it in at tea time, when its done, then it goes on the radiators, off in the morning.
Every other day.

lisad123 · 26/11/2011 18:17

I fit in two loads some days, put it on night before and hang in the morning, then stick another load straight in, and in evening hang that up. Put another load before bed

KnittingNovice · 26/11/2011 18:18

1 a day and 2 loads of nappies a week, in the knitting novice household. Was more loads of nappies but ds potty trained now. There are 2 adults and 2 children (21months, and 3.5)

ragged · 26/11/2011 18:19

Family of 6, About 4 loads a week, 5 kg machine (I think).

OverflowingMum · 26/11/2011 18:19

at least 3 loads a day, large capacity washing machine, and even then I am NEVER up to date.....
Then again there are 8 of us (me, DH and 6DC!!)so not much hope of ever being on top of it all LOL
If I miss even a day the massive back log takes me WEEKS to catch up!!

practicallyimperfect · 26/11/2011 18:23

You wash your towels after using them once? I have never heard of that. We have towels for about a week, one shower a day, they don't smell.

startail · 26/11/2011 18:24

I've no idea, except that I never ever get to the bottom of the heap!

with 2 dc and me and dh, we do one load a day at least. i hate it. esp in the winter when you can't dry washing on the line outside.

hiddenhome · 26/11/2011 18:44

2-3 coloured loads a day and about 2 whites washes a week. My washing machine is never off Hmm

There's two adults and two children in the house. We have clean outfits each day and clean pjs every night.
