I need to do some major maintenance on the washing machine

So far I've cleaned out the outlet and removed huge amounts of old detergent.

I've cleared out the filter.

I'm currently running a second 90 degree wash but it keeps lathering up even though there's no new detergent in there.

Is there anything I can put in the machine to get rid of all the lather/ soap scum?

thanks!

Try "Dr Beckmann Service-It Washing Machine Cleaner", you should be able to get it from the supermarket or on Amazon

Chuck a load of soda crystals in drum (3 huge handfuls)
Run a hot wash!

Descales and cleans
Cheap!

thanks both. Will see what I can get in sainsburys tomorrow.

the very hot wash, with no detergent and no fabsoft, will wash away the sludge of old soap. When it stops foaming you will know it is clean. This is a good time to put all your white cotton towels in. A maintenance wash like that once a month or so will prevent it building up so much.

You might also check that you are not using more powder than the instructions say.

Currently on third 90' wash and still foaming...

I only use 3 dessert spoons of sainsburys basic range bio powder with 3 dessert spoons of soda crystals in each colour wash and 6 of each for the white sheets. Honestly you dont need anywhere near as much as you think.

Ok. Am feeling quite proud that I fixed the machine without having to call a plumber :)

I do 2x 90' with soda crystals (only 90p for the whole bag!) but also used a couple of bottles of drain cleaner.

On reflection I haven't been cutting down on the amount of detergent when I'm doing less than a full wash, so even though we live in the hardest water area of the country, its too much! And with super concentrated products it's too easy to over dose the machine...

So am resolved to stick to big box and use very little. And regularly clean the pipes :)

Thanks for all your help.
