Mysterious stains in clothes

I've noticed a number of stains in our clothes recently when they come out of the wash and I don't know what the cause is. I'm sure there was no stain when they went into the wash - it appears like a watermark or faint oil mark.

Any ideas?

Have you washed out your washing machine recently?
You should run it empty on its hottest setting with a full quantity of washing detergent.
That might help.

I do all my washes at 30 degrees, so sometimes I notice stains being added to my clothes too. Washing out the machine hot really helps with this.
