moving into house very soon, windows all new and draught free. lovely big sitting room which is almost like a conservatory as huge big bay window. absolutely lovely but dont know what kind of curtains....would prefer long but then that will block the heat from the radiator, the only one in the room. should i have blinds and curtains that dont move? think i would prefer not but dont know what to do...excuse 1 finger typing, baby feeding. xx

Can you move the radiator?

I grew up in a house liek this. My mum insisted she wanted full length curtains but they always ended up rolled up and resting on the windowsil to let the heat out, which kind of defeated havign them at all. I'd get curtains cut to the length of the windws. It'll look fine. But check the curtain rails are up to it. I know my mum had a nightmare trying to get rail to fit round our bay window that was strong enough to actually hold up the curtains.

builders are putting up a curtain rail as the one there will not hold even light curtains.i thought of moving the radiator but nowhere obvious for it, plus work finished now and we are desperate to get in.

we have blinds in the bay windows and curtains that dont get pulled at night - we just put the blinds down. Would curtains be able to tuck behind the radiator?

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/11/2011 14:34

I'd use thermal lined curtains, unless you have triple glazed windows they still lose more heat than a wall so you will lose heat out the window.

We had a 8foot wide bay window when I was little and we used short curtains as the radiator was their. The bay was always freezing when the curtains were drawn.
