Sticky Stuff

I have a door that I need to gloss paint. It used to have 2 plastic hooks on it that were self adhesive. Got the hooks off but it's left the adhesive behind. Any ideas? I thought WD40 but worry that wouldn't be good if gloss painting after? TIA

BTW. the door is gloss painted already, it's not unpainted wood.

Can't do links because I'm on phone, but google de.solv.it "sticky stuff remover". Great stuff and apparently safe on paint. They have it in Lakeland and Halfords among other places.

It is oddly miraculous stuff. I would give the door a good wash down before painting as it is a bit greasy. Good luck, painting wood is such a sod!
