How to remove burn stains from a worktop?

We have a house inspection next week and have just discovered some burn stains on our work top. How can I remove the stains? The work top material is the normal, beige, plastic-y one, I don't know what it's called.

I don't think you can - it is the surface itself that is damaged if it is burned. Might be best to call and 'fess before the inspection?

Put a kettle, pot, or table mat on top of it! Many of the ancient plastic worktops were not heatproof so this is what happened.
