Cleaning the shower.....

Tw1nkle · 15/11/2011 08:42

This is one job that I really dislike doing!!!

We have a square shower cubicle, with tiles on 3 sides, and one of those silly doors that opens funnily so I can't really clean the one wall behind the door unless I'm in the cubicle with the door shut!!!

I don't use the shower, only the bath, but my hubby uses it everyday (as he doesn't do the cleaning!!!).

The pressure through the shower head it is very low, so the whole experience is horrible - a drip of water, a wall that I never think is very clean, and then knowing that I've more reason to clean it as it's been used!!! argh!!!

Has anyone got any tips?

DH uses it and not you? Tell him to clean it.

I wish!!!

I have to confess I clean the shower while I'm in it-it's too tricky otherwise.. Next time your DH is in the shower throw him the Cillit Bang and a j-cloth. Grin

Katisha · 15/11/2011 09:19

Tell him you "can't work out how to do it" and it needs a technically-minded solution (ahem...)

Seona1973 · 15/11/2011 12:26

I also do 'naked shower cleaning' as it is easier if you are in the shower already with the door shut so you can get to all the nooks and crannies

AMumInScotland · 15/11/2011 12:35

If I don't clean the shower while I'm in there anyway, then shorts and flipflops work pretty well! A spray cleaner and a squeegee work pretty well, then you don't have as much to rinse off, if you don't have much water pressure to rinse with.

Sparklingbrook · 15/11/2011 13:57

'Naked shower cleaning' is definitely the way to go isn't it Seona? Grin

MyBaby1day · 17/11/2011 06:32

i do that too!! ha ha. But i find it works out best in the endSmile

My ex P used bars of soap that left scum all over the place so I bought some if the Mr Muscle daily shower spray. Worked quite well. You need a shower mat though. So there will be an extra thing for your DH (you) to rinse/wash.

Another naked shower cleaner and we also spray with Method shower spray after each use - very high limescale here.

sprinkles77 · 17/11/2011 09:39

I would get in the shower and get it really clean: Viakal on the limescale, some sort of heavy duty cleaner on the tiles (new cillit bang aerosol looks ace). Just spray the viakal and the other stuff liberally and leave to soak for 10 mins, then rinse / wipe. Then get a daily shower spray (we have the Tesco one, which is fine). Quick squirt after each use, and barely any cleaning required.

ChunkyMonkeyMother · 17/11/2011 10:13

I do ours once a month - I spray it with a mixture of mr muscle bleach and soap crystals then I rinse it down with the shower head and an old loofer - I also use a squidgy (like the window cleaners) to do the glass and finish the tiles i also like to pretend I'm cleanin' windows then we spray it as often as we remember (so usually about twice a week) with an asda/tesco daily thing - it still gets grimmy so I don't have an answer with regards to keeping it clean all the time sorry!

OxfordGold · 17/11/2011 14:58

Method Daily Shower here - works a treat - even dh can do it - can run a bloody company but struggles with smallest domestic chore Hmm

mousymouse · 17/11/2011 15:03

dh cleans ours.
he does the naked and armed with viakal thing. with swimming goggles. have to take a picture when he does it next time...

Sparklingbrook · 17/11/2011 15:12

Us 'inside the shower' cleaning folk must have really clean feet from standing in the Cillit Bang/Viakal. My feet are limescale free! Grin

AMumInScotland · 17/11/2011 15:19

I always wear flipflops if I'm using Viakal/Limelite!

Sparklingbrook · 17/11/2011 15:22

Oh no! I have been doing it wrong! Luckily feet seem ok. Will keep an eye out in the Daily Mail health section for foot problems caused by household descaling products though. Grin

mousymouse · 17/11/2011 15:25

maybe doing it barefeet helps get rid of hard skin?
kind of like a foot spa :o

SierraMadre · 17/11/2011 15:27

New shower soon to be in action (yay!). How much Method shower spray to use? Quick squirt wash side or drench the thing?

mousymouse · 17/11/2011 15:30

you need a squeedgee to squeedge off the excess water after the shower to keep lime scale at bay.
