We have stained floor boards through out most of the house, what's the best way to clean them and with what?

Any suggestions gratefully received! :)

You could try old fashioned floor polish, that would bring up the colour of the wood.

damp mop daily to get the dust and spills up.

Thanks, will give the polish a try. Mop it everyday but it never ends up as shiny.

I wouldn't put polish on them as it might be slippery.

I used an E cloth from Lakeland which does the job well as you use very little water which is key with wood.

Maybe they need re varnishing? They don't stay shiny forever.

Thought the polish would be a good idea until I realised how much there is to do! Grin

The floors were varnished just after we bought the house in august, but I guess with a family of 5 and animals in and out, a constantly shiny floor is out of the question.

Will try the e cloth as I hate my mop ( and I've tried plentySmile).

Thanks for the help Grin

is it a gloss varnish? Satin is less trouble. If you know the type and brand then you can probably get a compatible one next time you feel like recoating it. It will just need light sanding first. Extra-hard polyurathene floor varnish wears well. The Ronseal one is very good.

Ecover soapy wood cleaner is good, leaves a bit of a shine. & smells quite nice.
