We moved house last week and although the kitchen is woefully short on storage space and has a poxy built-under single oven (oh how I miss my built-in, top-of-the-range Neff double oven...), it does have a steam oven.
Now I know these are supposed to be great and people rave about them, but I'm really at a loss as to know what to use it for. I cook a lot (and pretty well) but can't really see the point of a steam oven.
Vegetables - I have one of those in-pan metal steamers which is quick and easy to use. Rice - I have a microwave steamer. We like tasty food, with herbs and spices and I like my roast meat with good crispy brown skin etc. Yes, I know fish is probably good in a steamer but we don't eat it that often, and when we do I probably wouldn't choose to steam it.
I just have the impression that steamed food is pale and bland and that a steam oven will be time-consuming to use - please put me right and tell me what you use your steam oven for!
