I'm surprised you haven't had any replies yet. I've been thinking about whether such-a-thing exists as a cordless hoover vacuum cleaner which is powerful enough to be a sole device. I don't mean with enough battery life to do it all in one charge, I just mean it would be the only vacuum cleaner.

There is a lovely looking Dyson, the DC35. I occasionally swoon over it, but its sooo expensive I am terrified I'd buy it and it wouldn't do a good enough job.

I bought a DC35 about six months ago, and can recommend it unreservedly (tis expensive though!). I rarely use my big vacuum cleaner now, just once a month or so to do whole house all at once.
