Alternatives to hideous tv stand

iarebaboon · 10/11/2011 12:14

we'ce acquired an offesively large tv

Rather than using the equally offensive stand I would like a low table to put it on

Low and narrow, about 1 meter long, maybe 30cm ish deep. Preferably with a shelf underneath for the gubbins

I don't want modern glass/ metal, but not really sure what I do want

Can anyone inspire me?

Ours isn't on a low table but it's on an oak cabinet. High enough from little fingers, the drawers hold all the remotes, console controls and all manner of other crap and the dvd's/blu rays are all hidden in the cupboard.

It's supposed to be a sideboard for dining room or what not but works perfectly for us as our tv stand. Grin

That's an idea. Does it matter that it's quite high up?

Our room is quite small, I think if it were larger, and do we were further from the tv it wouldn't matter, but as it's close to where we sit we might be staring upwards

Thanks tjouh, it's something to consider :)

Our massive tv is on a console table a bit like this.

my tv is on a unit similar to this

all the wires are hidden behind and dvd player sits on the shelf below. It's low so no peering upwards.

Like the look of the console table, that's the kind f thing I had in mind but didn't know the name of. Thanks :)

Ours is on a set a drawers, its great because it provides a lot of storage too.

I've got an oak cabinet too - it's actually the bottom of an Edwardian wardrobe. As it has a drawer I can't put any gadgets underneath the TV, they have to sit alongside. But it beats having one of those horrid glass stands.

we have something similar to www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6092287/Trail/searchtext%3ETV+STAND.htm this but oure has a couple of drawers too

would you consider fixing it to the wall?

Is it a thin flatscreen, or a heavy one?
