Product recommendation? Getting tomato out of clothes

DD2 is the worst. 7 months old and baby led weaning. And now there is no sun for bleaching out the stains. I use Fairy non-bio and wash at 40 and most stains go except tomato based food. I hated my old vanish soap bar (made my hands go rough) so I bought the Vanish spray (you know - trust pink, forget stains). Didn't work. It was a while ago.. maybe they have improved it? What do you use that works?

a bit of washing up liquid rubbed in helps as does De-solv-it spray. I would also use bio products if there are no skin issues.

"(made my hands go rough)"

Rubber gloves maybe?

Sunlight's the thing for stains made by natural colours. I realise it's in short supply at the moment but even now a stint on the kind on a sunny day will help.

Works for lily pollen and turmeric too.

many food stains are fat soluble, what works is rubbing the stain with butter or oil and adding half a cup or so of soda crystals directly into the drum of the mashine.

in the 13 years I've done of parenting so far and 6 children I've never found a way to get out tomato stains. I'd love to know though.

butter? seriously? How do I convince my husband I am sane while rubbing butter onto clothes? ("but mumsnet made me do it..")

Sunny windowsill for tomato stains. Sometimes it can take 2 or 3 days.

BertieBotts · 07/11/2011 15:00

Sun, definitely. Doesn't matter if it's actually sunny weather or not. Leave it outside for a couple of days in this weather, then wash again, since it will probably be soaking by then!
