Carpet smell

We hired a Rug Doctor at the weekend to do the carpets which did a brilliant job-well worth doing.

The trouble is though I now have a wet carpet smell all through the house even though they have all dried. It smells like wet dog but we havent got a dog. I have all the windows open and am sitting here shivering.
Does anyone have any experience of this and will it go away in time? Is there anything else I can do?

Sprinkle liberally with bicarbonate of soda, leave for a little while then hoover. I've also heard that BOS mixed with dried lavender makes it smell lovely but i've not tried it myself
