Help with soda crystals please

Hello wise ladies (and gents),

I read somewhere that to get the smell of old food from a car seat was to use bicarbonate of soda.

So, I bought some soda crystals (lady at Sainsbury's said it's the same thing)
mixed a paste together with hot water, brushed it on and was supposed to hoover it off today.
The paste has settled into the material of the pushchair and I can't hoover it off.
Should I just wash it off with warm soapy water? I did this originally, and it didn't shift the smell (which is unpleasant, just on the straps and the spongy part of the P&T harness)

Would you suggest maybe trying white vinegar if this doesn't work...?

Or any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Eeerrrmmmmm sorry but soda crystals are NOT the same as bicarbonate of soda! Not that it's any help to you now but you shouldn't have mixed it into a paste, you should have just sprinkled the bicarbonate
of soda onto the seat and left overnight and then hoovered it off.
To get the paste off? I don't know? A thorough wet wash with lots of water may be required? Sad

Is it a car seat or a pushchair?

Most car seats have removable covers, which can go in the washing machine. The straps can be removed by unthreading from the seat. Then clean them by soaking in a bucket of soapy water and scrubbing with a scrubbing brush. Dry thoroughly before re-assembling.

If it is a pushchair, take it outside with a bucket of soapy water and a scrubbing brush. Use lots of water and scrub the fabric, scraps and all very wel. Get into all the crevices. Rinse with clean water and leave to dry very well.

Oh dear :(

I said to the lady at Sainsbury's I didn't think it was the same - she said, 'yeah it is'.

I hope I haven't ruined the pushchair harness. The pushchair scrubbed up well with washing up liquid and hot water. It's just the spongy part of the pushchair strap at the front - where the 4 straps clip into place.

It's spongy and seems to have absorbed smells.

I'll try using hot soapy water on it again and see if that gets rid of the crystals...

Thanks

the crystals dissolve in water, same as sugar and salt do.

I think you will just have to keep damp-sponging and rinsing the sponge.

Don't use lots of water as you will wash the soda into the material or backing.

If it is a washable item, you could immerse it in warm water for a while and swish it about.

You have to keep chnaging teh water as you are sponging as it will become a solution of soda

p.s. you would have found bicarbonate of soda with the baking ingredients rather than in the cleaning section.
