Stinky rank machine that cost a bloody fortune

We have the lg direct drive machine. Lately I've noticed a really sour smell when doing laundry. I don't use the drawer but cleaned it & wiped around the seal & set it to tub clean function. No difference, pulled the door seal a bit & omg there was thick sludge. It made me gag. Cleaned that all off, cannot begin to explain how gross it was! No difference. Cleaned filter etc,put on boil wash. No difference. Pulled seal back again to see fine green black layer of scum. Really hard to get to but I have given it a go. Filled it with laundry bleach & napisan & put on a medic wash. Hoping that will loosen it so I can get the layer off.
Wish me luck. My life is beyond glamorous!

Don't use any liquid detergents, not even fabric conditioner. Only powder.

Run a boil wash with some soda crystals on empty at least once a month.

Good luck - I sympathise with how gross it is to sort out! Mine took several goes as my machine used to do this. Once I stopped using any liquids it hasn't happened again.

I use the liquids that go in the drum as the powder drawer wasn't great. Are there any powders that I can use in the drum?

We use Persil and throw it straight into the drum, seems to work fine and the machine stays clean. Lots of powder drawers seems to get clogged up, especially with modern cold fill that does not dissolve them very well.

As you probably know, an occasional HOT wash of white cotton towels will tend to dissolve and wash away the accumulated sludge of old soap and fab soft (if there is a lot of it, you can put the towels in with no powder, and you will find they froth up just with the pre-existing soap residue). I guess your tub clean cycle does something similar.

What model of LG machine have you got? One of their recent models, with a very big door, has led to a lot of complaints about slime, if yours is one of those, you could joint the campaign of complaints.
