Reviving a biscuit barrel?

I have a biscuit barrel, which in style is similar to this.

It is about 18 months old now, and it no longer keeps biscuits fresh - they go soft and stale within a day or so of being put into the tin. Is there anyway to revive whatevver is in the lid of the tin to prolong its life, or do I just need to accept that is is usless and buy another tin?

I think you put it on a low heat in the oven to dry it out again.

Does it have a rubber seal? Have you checked it's not damaged?

Our old one (eeh, when I was a girl, in the 80s) had instructions in the lid to dry out in a low oven to revive.
