The worlds greatest....Potato peeler?

pissedrightoff · 27/10/2011 23:01

Possibly the most boring question I have ever asked.

I really HATE peeling potatoes, The peeler I have is just rubbish so have been using a knife.

There is more potato on the bit I throw away than the bit that ends up in the pot.

So come on, light up my life with links to the best tattie peeler of them all.

TIA

I find the flimsy little horseshoe shaped ones the best. Cheap and cheerful, when they are blunt just get a new one.

You need one of these:

kenwood potato peeler

[hgrin]

I find that A frame ones are best. Best of all they can be used by both lefties and righties!

MindtheGappp · 28/10/2011 01:10

I my DDs use the OXO potato peeler. It works a treat potatoes are peeled while I am having a glass of wine?

pissedrightoff · 28/10/2011 01:18

pengymum If I could afford it I would have that, Seeing as I can't MindtheGappp will just have to send me her DD's (and wine obv).

We have the oxo good grips potato peeler too. It's fab.

Icelollycraving · 28/10/2011 13:39

I was briefly obsessed with potato peelers. I've done the legwork! After loads of rubbish ones, the good grips one is definately the best (if Mindthegapp isn't sending her slaves dd)

sevenoften · 28/10/2011 13:43

Good grips.

MindtheGappp · 28/10/2011 14:51

I will have it be known that my slaves DDs only use the best. They fight over who gets the Good Grip and the loser goes into a major sulk at having to use some stainless steel job.

lampli · 28/10/2011 16:00

I have the oxo good grips one, but straight, not Y shaped. I always cut myself on the Y shaped ones.

crockydoodle · 28/10/2011 16:24

Oxo good grips in this house too. The best without question.

notcitrus · 28/10/2011 16:58

Good Grips. They do both vertical and horizontal-bladed versions.

But any with a good fat handle and a rocking two-sided blade will generally do - I have some supermarket one as well.

Ds and Dn by age 2.6 were enjoying peeling carrots with them (lay carrot on table, slide peeler along, children entertained for ages, carrots lost some peel...)

Mandy2003 · 28/10/2011 17:17

Any sort of Swiss peeler really, I prefer the full metal ones like this. Mine's from Australia and is called the "Dinky Di" and I've had it 20 years and still going strong.

NL3 · 28/10/2011 17:19

oxo good grips y shaped - love it!

WhoWhoWhoWho · 28/10/2011 17:21

mine is the oxo one too, a y shaped one.

bounty007 · 28/10/2011 19:16

Oxo Y for me too, worth the extra money...my new moto is " buy sh1te, buy twice"!

Civliz · 28/10/2011 22:25

I have Good grips straight swivel, a non branded y shaped peeler and a Victorinox solid one. I think the Victorinox solid peeler has the best cutting action for spuds once you get the hang of it. Otherwise y shaped works best for carrots, good grips was annoying today on cooking apples - kept getting clogged up and I very nearly resorted to my small knife.

Mandy2003

Your should be the winner, purely because 'Dinky Di' is a friends nickname for me.
(Disclaimer:There is nothing dinky about me)
