Fly experts - cleaning the whole house/bathrooms

Dear Fly Experts,

Do you set one morning aside to clean the whole house and then do the zones or do you just keep cleaning a little each day + zone.

Do you full clean of your bathrooms - we have 3, so a full clean of the house takes me about 6 hours which is too much to contemplate most days, so end up doing it every 2 weeks and just using bathroom wipes in between and a quick hoover/wash floors.

I'm not sure what others do but I get the idea that you only do 15 mins per room/job then go onto next job. (also have breaks in between)

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I do a "house blessing" once a week (a quick whizz round with the vacuum etc), and save the detailed cleaning for the zones (bathrooms one week, kitchen the next etc) I rarely get her whole list done, and what i do manage doesn't get done all in one go, I do as much as I can when time (& DC) allow, I save my timer for when I'm doing decluttering, room rescues & hotspots.

Do feel free to join our thread, although we are mainly focussed on getting the babysteps to become habit, and decluttering at the moment.

if you do the full fly lady - you need to the babysteps first I think - but you do a swish and swip every day in your bathrooms - about 2 mins each one
do a house blessing once a week and then either missions or detailed cleaning 15 mins every day - different rooms each week-
when I am full on with fly lady my house is lovely - its much quicker and more efficent than any other approach

Chestnutx3 · 27/10/2011 13:37

thanks I'm going to start it after half term, I have been doing bits of it.

Worried about not doing 3 bathrooms completely each week - have started to swish and wipe but large house and an hours house blessing isn't going to do it for me - maybe I should make it two one on Monday and one on Friday

yes 2 house blessing is a good idea - and in fact I run the hoover round when needed - honestly you will be amazed how clean you can keep your house in how little time when you get going

bessie26 · 27/10/2011 19:00

Remember the house blessing isn't detailed cleaning, it is a QUICK clean-up!

so when do your properly clean the bathrooms - once a month, surely not!

Yep! (well, I think so, it's all I do!)

I "swish & swipe" every day & clean the floor once a week (in the house blessing).

If you feel you need to do something else, then do it. We squeegy the shower screen after every shower & rinse the bath out after every bath.

An0therName · 27/10/2011 22:06

yep me too - normally run over the sinks in my swish and swip - if say the bath looks gruppy I would do that

Chestnutx3 · 28/10/2011 06:35

Thanks girls all becoming clearer now - don't think my bathrooms would survive just on swish and wipe for a whole month, will need to build time to do the baths. If we all had showers I think we could do it.

Could you clean the baths once a week? It could be part of your house blessing?

The thing I really like about Fly Lady is how you can build stuff like this into routines that you end up doing without thinking, I do the swish & swipe automatically now! Have you done the babysteps yet?
