Household Soap

I recently found out that Proctor & Gamble don't make Fairy Household Soap anymore, and don't know how I am going to cope without it. I have used it for years to remove all sorts of stains from many things, especially shirt collars, carpets and all stains on clothing. I have tried "Vanish" but found it useless. Are there any other household soap bars out there, or any good tips on removing stains?

boots white windsor soap is the nearest I can find.

If you can cope with it not being a bar then white wizard is really good for the things you mention, lakeland used to do it, but I'm not sure where to get it anymore.

I will have to use my remaining 2 bars sparingly then . I love that soap and it is so useful.

I recently bought household soaps from the outdoor market in Birmingham city centre. Pink cabolic type and green pine flavour. I'm sure you would find similar near where you are. Also, I believe Sainsburys do their own.

I just use a bar of plain white soap. Cheap supermarket own brand.

It's great at getting stains out of things - is there (was there) anything in the Fairy Household Soap that wasn't just soap?

Thanks to everyone for all the really useful advice, I will be trying out all the suggested places next week, and will let you know how I get on.

I use fairy liquid for stains, it even got curry out of my pyjamas.

There are online stores you can buy old fashioned soaps on, eg carbolic.

If you put the remaining bars in the airing cupboard its meant to dry it out slightly making it longer lasting. So I have heard. (disclaimer I do not know how on earth I pick this kind of info up)

Fairy soap here

"Astonish" do a 'stain-remover bar' which seems exactly like soap, and gentler on hands than Fairy. Have just removed white paint from dark green jersey tunic-top, so it works.

Managed to find the Boots white windsor soap in the Kingston Upon Thames store and bought 5 packs. It seems to work OK, but not as good as Fairy in my opinion. Have only tried it on the laundry so far, need to try it out on carpets too. Thanks again to everyone for the tips.

Can I ask what you use it for other than laundry, in fact how do you use it in laundry as well for that matter?

I've used the boots White Windsor one for years. I use it for hand wash laundry, stain removal and grated and mixed with soda crystals makes a good washing detergent. I aslo use it for hand washing when I've been gardening/diy etc and finally the floor, sink and kitchen tops gets scrubbed with it.

They have also stopped making Fairy Toilet soap as well as the household soap. I loved that one as we always used it when i was a child

Local Post Office (Spar shop) has about 12 bars of it. Don't know if its still in their order book though.

Why oh why do they stop making such brilliant products! I love that Fairy soap - it has rescued many baby clothes others suggested throwing away and seen me through travels in several continents. I'm going to stock up I think - that astonish soap looked great value till I realised each bar is half the size of a bar of Fairy.

Btw - there is a twin pack of Fairy selling on ebay for TWENTY QUID! I wonder if anyone will bid?

Would the Sunlight household soap be a good substitute? Rolfes DIY online store sells that - i've used it in the past and found it very good.

can someone tell me what you do with the soap to get stains out? Am not being super dim but do you wet the clothes, scrub with the soap then stick in machine straight away? I blame my mum for not teaching these things

Wet the soap and the stain and rub it in kriss OR a big dollop of Fairy Liquid works well too.

I got some Sunlight soap from one of my many travels and found that good. Sad yes that they're going to discontinue it, why they do this i don't know!-but i do know it's annoying! . Try and do your best to get hold of some that will still be around then use Sunlight or as another lady said you can see some like carbolic in certain shops, when i visit other towns i do. And btw i handwash all my things (using handwash powder and soap) BEFORE they go into the machine!!, so basically they're already clean!! lol. Good luck with finding some soap!.

they get rid of everything that works good ,i think even washing machines don't even work has well anymore with there half water levels and cold washes

Does the Boots White Windsor work as well, I wonder.

Just purchased some of this Fairy Green Soap for my dear old mum. It's VERY expensive now so it better put me in the good books for a few years. Got it off eBay, only one pack, but if it's the real deal I'll probably get some more for her.

They told me they have plenty but mum says she hasn't been able to buy it for a couple of years now so don't know where they can be getting it from.
