Smell of smoke

Hi - I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this as it is not strictly house related, but I recently bought a bag via ebay - it is excellent condition apart from the fact that the interior smells really strongly of smoke - an old, ashtray sort of smell.

Is there anything I can do to remove the smell? I have tried airing it, spraying perfume, but the former didn't work and the latter just masked the smell temporarily. Any tips please? Thank you!

Perhaps if you put some bread soda in? It's a great smell absorber. Maybe wrap a few tablespoons in muslin/an old pop sock and leave it overnight.

Thank you - I will try that. It's such a shame because the bag looks completely unused; the smell really lets it down.

Bicarbonate of soda is supposed to be really good at absorbing smells. No harm in giving it a try.

I have some bicarb in the cupboard so will try it this afternoon - thank you!
