Babysitting circles

Hello all
Out of interest, how widespread are babysitting circles? I belong to one in south London and it works brilliantly but people are always amazed that it exists, let alone thrives, and I never know how typical this is. Is it an urban thing or are there lots in the countryside too?

Our town and 2 local villages to it run a fairly big one. Seems to work very well. We have just moved here (February) so I am still getting to know people so have not actually joined in yet.

Where in sth london is yours? is there any spaces for me to join?
if not, what are your rules as i was thinking of setting one up?

We have one on the estate... its run via 'google groups' which means you just place an email and you respond and everyone sees the answers so you dont get 3 yes's. You get 10 tokens to start with, each valid for 1 hr ( 30min after midinght) which are given and recieved in payment.
