Help! Tomato & Marscapone Sauce 1, White Jeans 0 :(

Managed to spill tomato and marscapone sauce all down my brand new white jean capris that I'd pulled out in celebration of the scorching weather. I hand washed the stain immediately and left to soak overnight and it's now been through 2 x 40 degree washes, one with a glo-white bag which was the only thing in my cupboard. The stain is still sadly there. Any tips for getting rid of it entirely or should I just resign myself to the fact that these are knackered :(

If it makes any diff, they're 98% cotton, 2% elastane and label 'says' 30 degree wash only but I think thats balls. I never wash higher than 40 though as I'm too scared of ruining stuff but will it get rid of it if I do say a 60 wash?

stay away from the 60deg wash and just hang the trousers in direct sunlight all day

When you put the trousers in sunlight,you need to make sure that the stained part is actually facing the sun,its no good just hanging them on the line,I drape offending item over a garden chair so I can move it around as the sun moves,

I would try Ariel stain remover and whitener gel, I use this on DC's white school polo shirts and it's great! but not cheap

Well I never. I've just been to bring in my trousers which were still out and I cannot believe it but the stains have all gone. That is AMAZING! Thank you so much Aunty and Dipsy - I will remember this one!!!

Thanks for the recommendation Jenni - it's unlikely we'll get another good day of sunshine like this so I think I ought to have a back up plan :)

The trick is to remember it works with stains caused by natural things (tomatoes, lily pollen, turmeric). Not so good with felt tip pen, unfortunately!

Glad it worked for you,always recommend it after it bought bolegnaise sauce out of my white top.

I have used Milton solution on white things with stains on in the past, it works v.well.

I was just coming onto the thread to recommend the sunlight method! It always worked a treat with the DCs' puree-encrusted bibs.

I think it's the optical brighteners in the washing powder reacting with the UV in sunlight.

It works even on dull days, just have to leave things out for longer, even in winter, maybe 2-3 days then rewash if needed.

Yep sunshine and be sure they are wet when you hang them out. If the stain is still there wet them again, or leave them out and let the dew do it for you.
If they are new you should be ok, I think the dressing washing out takes the stain with it. Stains on old well worn stuff get much harder to shift.
