Removing mildew

Hi, I'm scrubbing up our highchair to pass on to a friend, and in the recesses of the covers there are mildew stains. I've washed the covers in the machine with bio powder and some vanish, it's not done much good, stains are as bad as they were. The covers are a synthetic material, ever so slightly porous. Do you think bleach would help? I have some bathroom mildew spray, I suspect the active agent in this is just bleach anyway.

Does anyone have any ideas how to shift it? I'm slightly embarrassed to pass on something which looks a bit manky, but friends are now expecting to receive it. Thanks.

Neat bleach and scrub it in to the recesses, leave it for half an hour then rinse off. If the stains are still there, repeat, rinse very thoroughly and put it out in the sun if possible.
