Question about your rubbish collections- how is it for you?

Do you have weekly or fortnightly collections? If you could choose between the current arrangement of weekly rubbish collection and a weekly limited recycling collection but an increase in council tax to pay for this service or a fortnightly amazing recycling (taking tetrapack, most plastics and card/ paper etc) with big green wheelie bins to store it all in, fornightly food collection and fortnightly rest of the rubbish collection but no increase to council tax, which would you choose?

At the moment we have -

fortnightly general rubbish (grey wheely bin)

fortnightly recycling (paper, card, tetrapack, plastic bottles, tin cans) (blue wheely bin)

fortnightly garden composting (no food waste) through the summer (brown wheely bin)

I'm pretty happy with it, though I wish they could add glass (they can't - wheel bin + bin lorry + glass = bad idea) and compostable food waste (they tried at first - I think there was too much confusion)

So I think I have your second option - fortnightly, wheely bins, no extra charge. It works fine.

Same as AMIS. Works fine.

I have green bin = garden waste and compostable food waste

Blue bin = paper card plastic

Black bin = everything else.

They alternate weeks between green+blue / black.

I have to take my glass up to the bottle bank though.

I'm fairly happy with it but struggle with the green bin, especially in the summer. I'd like the option to have additional refuse sacks and pay for those to be taken but I suspect this wouldn't work. Just need to get my own composting system sorted out properly I suppose!

We have fortnightly general waste = black wheelie bin
alternating with fortnightly garden waste = green wheelie bin

In addition we have
plastics = white weighted bag, on black bin week

cardboard (loose) on green bin week

glass, tins etc = recycling box weekly
food waste = little bin weekly

Life was much simpler in our previous area where you just chucked everything in a black bag and put it out every week. Our kitchen was not built for storing recycling and I am sick of drowning in cardboard.

We have the same as AMIS too, except we can add food waste in our compost bin. It works well.

I cetainly wouldn't pay extra to have a weekly landfill collection.

I refuse to use the food waste after finding those 'm' things in my kitchen bin

I'm sick of recycling too, we don't have the space to have things hanging around either. Would gladly pay more to go back to weekly everything collection.

we have second option -3 whellie bins -fortnightly - it works well - though also don't have big kitchen so it gets on my nerves as always seem to have bits of paper, cardboard hanging around

old council they seperated everything themselves - so only put out paper and glass seperatly - I preferred that really

interested as i know various areas have gone to fortnightly and ours hasnt yet. i can imagine this might come up in the future and i wondered what others thought ! i am undecided as am green in my nature but do like the weekly collections!

It's times like this that I'm glad I live in a block of flats. Rubbish is collected from the big communal bins three times a week. Some recycling bins as well, but no obligation to use them.

I choose to keep my current arrangements and no increased council tax

we are the same as AMumInScotland and it works fine. No food or glass collection yet. We can also put textiles in our recycling.

3 boxes for Card/Paper, Glass and Plastic collected at same time as Green Wheelie bin.

I am pretty happy with our set up, rubbish weekly, recycling fortnightly. No need for garden waste any more as we live in a flat but in our old home it used to be fortnightly as well, alternately with the recycling.

I can recycle glass, aluminium and tins and paper from the kerbside. Would like to be able to do plastics. I know they trialled it a while ago, not sure what happened with that

Weekly:
Orange bags for glass, tins, paper, cardboard, tetrapacks, plastic bottles and now all plastic tray-type packaging.
Black bags for everything else, though plant-based food waste goes in caddy into compost bin. I also take other plastic waste to Sainsburys round the corner for recycling/incineration.
Garden waste isn't allowed in black bags - you have to pay for an annual permit and then for special bags, or take it to the tip yourself.

Given that we end up with less than one black bag a week, even with a nappy a night, it's fine by me though would be nice to have food waste collected. The garden waste is a pain but as most of the borough is garden-free flats and they managed to keep the council tax level last year, I can't say it's unfair.

I think it's much better when the householders can put all their recyclables in one bin and it gets separated later, than clogging up small houses/flats with 5 separate bins.

Food waste collected weekly. Wheely bins with alternate weekly collection of black bin (other stuff) and blue bin - amazing recycling (all plastic, metal, glass, paper, board - everything except textiles). Although I did hear on the radio this week that such mixed recycling has to be sent abroad to be dealt with

My problem with it all is that each household now needs 3 wheelie bins and many properties where I live are small terraces with no front gardens, so the pavements are literally covered in wheelie bins. SO UGLY AND IN THE WAY.

We have a small front garden, cluttered with three wheelie bins. I wish there was some alternative.

Ours recently changed - our recycling bin now takes terapaks/butter tubs/glass as well as card/plastic bottles. Lots of Amazon packaging usually. Fortnightly collections, was given a larger bin on request for recycling.

Black bin for non recyclable, eg kitchen waste, few nappies etc. Collected fortnightly, only half full usually. Recent maggots though

Brown bin for garden waste. Fortnightly collection I think but we don't really use it as only got a border, rest is paved. Front garden waste is mostly litter

one of the council officers pointed out (absolutely rightly) that families used to manage with a single dustbin and very little recycling with no problem - and that wheelie bins are more than double the volume of dustbins plus we get recycling collected - there is no way that most of us should have any problem with fortnightly collection.

I've always assumed that they didn't take glass because of a risk of it breaking. But if other areas manage it, then it's clearly not that much of a problem. So I don't know why they don't!

We have fortnightly general waste and fortnightly garden waste, with weekly recycling. Recycling takes plastic and glass bottles, tins, and cardboard/paper, but not other plastics.

I hate it. The recycling box is tiny and because everything is triple packed (bought some breadsticks, which were on a tray, in a plastic wrapper, inside a cardboard box...ridiculous!) the wheelie bin is always jammed. The recycling box is far too small as well, but we're just about keeping up with that because they collect that weekly. I wish they'd go back to weekly on general waste, or alternatively crack down on ridiculous packaging.

Not too bad and we have a bin cupboard as new build so it's nice not to look at the bins!

All our waste is collected on a Monday, so some Mondays you are putting out two wheely bins and black bags
