How to get tarnished jewellery shiny again?

Not 'real' jewellery. In this case it's a 'gold' necklace from New Look that's gone really dull and tarnished after one wear. This has happened before, I think it's perfume that does it. In the absence of having jewellery cleaner in the house, has anyone got any tips on how to get the tarnish off?
